Metarhizium · a serious research question

Living fungi.
Specific evidence.

Entomopathogenic fungi can infect susceptible insects through their outer covering. Metarhizium is an important subject in ant-control research. The practical question is which strain, delivered how, against which ant, and with what colony-level result.

What the accessible synthesis supports

A 2023 systematic review found promising mortality results for Beauveria bassiana and Metarhizium anisopliae, predominantly in experiments on other pest-ant groups. It also emphasized the difficulty of extrapolating results and the need for better field trials.

The LFA-specific
paper trail.

A university catalog records a study by A. Castiñeiras and M. Neyra evaluating Beauveria, Metarhizium, and Bacillus against Wasmannia auropunctata. This is directly relevant to the question. We have located the bibliographic record, but have not verified the original methods or results; no mortality percentage or treatment recommendation is inferred from its title.

What a strong
field trial would record.

Identity & quality

Verified ant identification, fungal species and strain, batch, viable material, and storage history.

A fair comparison

Comparable untreated controls, baseline surveys, repeat sites, and a written method established before measuring results.

Useful outcomes

Track worker activity, colony persistence, duration of any reduction, non-target observations, and repeat detections.

These are questions for evaluating research, not instructions to culture or release a microorganism.

Research and product claims

A paper about a fungal species does not by itself validate every formulation containing that name. Attack’s current product description identifies it as a soil/plant-health material, not a registered pesticide. This guide therefore makes no claim that Attack controls LFA.
